by the way wednesday: your running favorites!

I completely loved reading the responses from last week's By The Way Wednesday questions (and I put the OXO can opener on my birthday list!), so today I want to ask about your favorite running stuff!

Share your favorites!

1.) What is your favorite place/trail for running? I have 2 places and I refuse to pick between them. One is Eugene, OR (everyone who has ever been there would probably say the same!).

And the other is around Lake Superior (the route of Grandma's Marathon).

2.) What is your favorite race you have ever run? Probably my first race in college because it was the first race after a really great summer of training. I'm sure the course wasn't super memorable, but it was one of my best races.

3.) What is your favorite distance to run? I love running 8 miles because I can keep a really great pace and I don't have to carry fuel or worry about anything but getting out the door.

4.) What's your favorite strength training move? I have two: push-ups (do those count as strength training?), and bench pressing my dog. :)

5.) Who is your favorite running partner? I have two again. Frank, of course, because he carries my things, takes pictures of me while I'm running, tells me I am really fast, and drives me to races (ok, just one race so far, but there are many in our future).

And, Jamie--my bff/college roomie! Because we both love to talk about everything that our other running partners (husbands) don't want to talk about :)

What are all your favorite running things??

  1. CUTE!! These pics are great. I've only ran in Portland not Eugene, but that was pretty special. Running in MI or on the lakefront in Chitown is amazing as well.

My favorite race is too hard to choose, but the first one really is the sweetest.

This post makes me want to hit the road!

  3. 1. Favorite running place - Summit Ave in St. Paul
(love looking at the big mansions and views of the city) or Pike Island (quiet trail run in the middle of the city with beautiful views of the river) in St. Paul
    2. Favorite race was my 1st marathon in Green Bay. I just felt awesome through the whole thing!
    3. Favorite distance is 5 miles - not too long, not too short, done in less than an hour.
    4. Pushups!
    5. My Dad. We have had the best conversations while running.

    1. You have a runner dad? That would be so cool! Hmm I will have to look up the marathon in green bay (unless we end up moving far away).

  7. Love that you bench press your dog!
My favourite trails to run are in Jasper National Park. My favourite place to run is on a waterfront, whether it's the ocean, a lake, or river.

  8. I love running by water. Anywhere where I can hear water flowing is my favorite place. It's been raining here a ton, and a couple of mornings ago there was a ditch with water flowing through it. So that ditch became my favorite.:)

And somehow I missed that your ran in college. That's awesome. I always assume that people who ran in college are superheroes, so I'm adding you to that list.

    1. Oh I am a long ways from my former glory of college running! I only ran 2 seasons and I hope to be even more of a super hero some day so keep me on that list ;)

  9. My race experience is so limited, but I loved getting my last 5k PR and knowing sub-20 is close! You bench your dogs too?

    1. PRs are great races! Do you have any 5ks scheduled during your marathon training?

    2. None officially - there really aren't that many out there yet - I am keeping my eyes out for one or two. Need to find a 10k in early April or late march too - those are a little tougher to find.

  10. You are right. I've never heard of anyone that has run in Eugene that it isn't their favorite if that makes sense. I'm so jealous!

  12. I love any leg strength moves but I think squats are my favorite. Although if I had a cute dog I would probably enjoy some dog presses too :)

  13. I love your picture from Eugene, Oregon! Have you ever thought about running the Eugene 1/2 or full marathon (April 28)?

    1. That race is definitely on my list for some year, but I won't be ready for it this year because I am coming back slowly from an injury. I really hope to do it in 2014 though!!

  14. I miss our runs together Roomie. The run with you in Oregon was one of my favorites together oh and the ones we took from Twin through Albion after dark! I would say Pre's trail was one of my favorite places to run. My favorite distance for a normal run is probably anything from 7-10 miles. I still love racing 5ks because I feel fast(er) racing that distance but I really think the half is my favorite race distance. Far enough to make me feel badass and I still can push the pace a bit. My favorite race of all time was probably my first half in Detroit or the race in high school where I broke 28 minutes. Of course you are my favorite running partner (Jay too I guess!).

  15. I do not know why it posted me as Jamie Venia. (Is it because I have a blog now for my grad class with that name?)
